Introduction

Even though the cover letter is sometimes considered a formality, some companies find it as important as the CV. Indeed, cover letters should give a personal touch to the factual information given in the curriculum vitae. They allow you to voice your enthusiasm and to state why you should be invited for an interview.

Whereas a CV for one vacancy can often be the starting-point for a series of CVs, a cover letter should be written specifically for one vacancy.

It is important to realise that a cover letter should be a kind of sales letter, destined to convince the recruiter of your abilities. It should be a letter that represents who you are and what you have to offer.

The more general your letter is, the less appealing it will be.
