Closing

Below you will find some closing sentences from cover letters. Do you think they are good as they are or can you improve them? Explain.

Exercise 1

I trust you will consider my application favourably and that you will grant me an interview.

On the one hand this is too self-assured: you never know who your competitors are, so you can never be certain to get invited.

On the other hand, the verb "to grant" stresses your dependence on the recruiter's decision too much. Highlighting these hierarchic relations undermine your self-assuredness.

Exercise 2

I would like to meet you for a personal conversation so we can get to know each other professionally.

This is a good closing sentence. Brief, smooth and to the point. It might not be the most original sentence, but it does the trick.
